Jakks Pacific Inc., like Mattel, produces more toy offerings than just dolls. And they tend to lean toward putting out celebrity dolls like Hannah Montana, Taylor Swift, Charlies Angels, Kylie Minogue and Josie and the Pussycats, but they also make theme dolls like this one, part of a series of awards dolls that included music, theatrical and Hollywood award dolls. I could not find another doll like this one, but I did find another music awards doll that features the same doll, the same starry backdrop, and the same crystal award statuette. The doll is still secured to her box’s backdrop with the original factory restraints. I think my mom removed the front of the box to allow for a better view of the doll, and for obvious reasons. The doll’s super-cool, full-length, navy, faux-leather coat is the star here. The skirt and top are less dramatic but somehow work well with the coat. Throw in nylon stockings, a choker necklace and some heels and the vision is complete. The shoes are still in their bag and the crystal statuette that has the identifying “Girl Scene” on it is still behind its cello mold, and the doll’s hair is still held neatly in place by the original cello restraints. The doll is quite lovely. She is 12” tall and has arched feet, blond hair that is partially braided, and blue eyes.
This doll somehow made it into my mother’s extensive Barbie doll collection. Knowing my mother, it was that coat that prompted the purchase, that same coat the reason the front of the box is M.I.A. I am surprised that she didn’t put the shoes on the doll, because shoes were her “thing.” And though the front of the doll’s box got hacked off, she was still protected over the years, safely stored away from smoke, dust, dampness, and rogue kitty cats with hand and feet mauling on their agendas.
Please note that I do not ship outside of the continental U.S., but don’t let that stop you. You can purchase through Ebay’s Global Shipping Program or arrange for shipment through an independent overseas shipping service. I do combine shipping so she could travel in good company with a Barbie.
